Ken’s roof failed before it should have. The warranty on the original system recognized that — and paid for the roof replacement. Cory Fuhrman from J&M Roofing’s Winter Park team installed 46 squares of IKO Dynasty Granite Black on Ken’s Melbourne home in Brevard County, replacing a system that underperformed with one built to last.

A roof that fails before its time isn’t just a maintenance problem — it’s a reminder that not all roofing systems perform equally, and that the warranty behind the product matters as much as the product itself. Ken’s original roof began showing signs of failure well ahead of schedule. The manufacturer warranty covered the replacement, which is exactly what warranties are designed to do — though not every homeowner gets to see one honored in full.
Ken came into J&M Roofing’s office in January 2026. The warranty claim process, permitting, and scheduling brought the installation to May — about three and a half months from contract to crew on-site. On May 6, Cory Fuhrman’s team replaced 46 squares of failing roofing with IKO Dynasty, a product with the performance specifications to justify the upgrade.
Granite Black is one of IKO Dynasty’s darkest colorways — a deep charcoal that reads nearly black in flat light and develops depth and variation as light rakes across the shingle’s dimensional surface. On Ken’s tan stucco exterior with stone accents and a classic arched entry, the contrast is exactly right: the dark roof grounds the home and sharpens the architectural lines without competing with the exterior details. It’s a combination that photographs well and holds its visual strength over time.
IKO Dynasty is built around ArmourZone — a reinforced nailing area across the width of the shingle that gives each fastener more material to grip. The result is a shingle with improved wind resistance at the point where most wind failures actually happen: the fastener line. Dynasty also carries a Class 3 impact rating, which matters on a Brevard County home exposed to Atlantic storm activity. These are not marketing claims — they’re measurable performance specifications that separate Dynasty from standard architectural shingles.
At 46 squares, this is a large installation — a home with the footprint to match Dynasty’s visual scale. The 6/12 pitch gives the shingle full exposure across a substantial roof face, and Dynasty’s dimensional layering shows well at this geometry. The Granite Black color at 46 squares makes a statement from the street: this is a home that was taken care of.

When the previous system failed and the replacement needed to be done right, Cory’s team was the call.
Ken’s Melbourne home has 46 squares of IKO Dynasty Granite Black where a failing roof used to be. The warranty did its job. The replacement was installed by a team with the track record to back it up. From the street, the dark shingles against the tan stucco give the home a clean, contemporary look that the original system — whatever it was — apparently couldn’t deliver on either performance or appearance over the long term.
